# Guardrails

> Rules that block policy violations at runtime.

**Settings → Guardrails** holds the workspace's guardrail rules. The header shows the counts at a glance: **rules**, **active**, **blocked**, and **7-day hits**.

## Adding rules

Two ways rules appear:

* **New rule**: write one yourself.
* **Proposed by the loop**: when the self-improvement loop detects a policy violation, it proposes a rule automatically. Review and activate it from the list.

## The rule list

Each rule shows whether it's active and how often it's hit. The search box filters the list as it grows. Blocked runs land in [Audit](/settings/governance/audit) under the guardrail filter, so every block is traceable to the rule that caused it.
